Hitchcock Nature Center, Pottawattamie County

Wednesday, February 9, 2022

Invite nature into your own backyard, grow beautiful pollinator and bird habitat and support native plants and ecosystems by joining us for our Gardening for Diversity series!

Perfect for beginning gardeners and anyone who is interested in supporting native plantings in their outdoor spaces, Gardening for Diversity will give you the confidence and background knowledge you need to grow a beautiful native garden that supports local wildlife and provides other great benefits for you and your community!

This first session will teach you how native gardening benefits wildlife and urban environments, help you choose a site for your garden, share ideas about plants to include and provide information about working with city ordinances and Homeowners Associations.

Participants can pick and choose which sessions they would like to attend, but we recommend attending as many as possible to ensure you build a strong foundational knowledge.

Session topics include:

  • Part 1: Native Garden Basics
  • Part 2: Planning & Mapping Your Garden
  • Part 3: Selecting Native Species
  • Part 4: Garden Prep & Groundwork

Cost is $15.00 per person per session and covers program materials. Ages 14+ please. Online pre-registration is required as space is limited. For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283. *In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather participants will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
