2018 Three Mile Walleye Ice Fishing

Three Mile Recreation Area Project Update

Posted:1/30/2018 Union / Three Mile Recreational Area

It seems ‚Äčlike it hasn't been long enough since the lake renovation to have a fish-able population in Three Mile Lake, but over the past fall the Iowa DNR Fisheries folks sampled the lake and found bluegill up to 8", large numbers of bass in the 5-9" range, crappies up to 7.5", and they found a large population of walleye from 15"-17" in length! An angler this past summer caught a 14" blue catfish off of one of the jetties and we're hoping to see many more of them show up this year. These fish are growing at about 3 times the rate they would grow in an established fishery. By mid summer this year the bluegill and crappie should be well into the "keeper" range and the walleye should be pushing 20"+! We are excited to have the fishery growing at such a fantastic rate and hope to see everyone out wetting a line soon!
