\nClayton \nCounty Conservation is pleased to announce the next Older, Wiser, Livelier, \nSouls. This year’s theme is “O.W.L.S Favorites” and programs take inspiration \nfrom past favorites to offer participants a wide variety of topics and trips. \nThis month’s program will be a paddle on the Mississippi River. The event will \nbe held on Friday, July 30th. \n \n
\n\nClinton \nCounty Conservation Board is partnering with us to offer a unique paddle on the \nMississippi River in their voyager canoes. Join us and travel back in time to \nexperience the Mississippi the way early French explorers did. Explorers like Marquette \nand Joliet who came to trade furs and explore the Upper Mississippi River in \n1673. \n \n
\n\nNo \npaddling experience needed in these boats that hold 14 passengers each \nproviding plenty of manpower. Just climb into one of the 29-foot cargo canoes, aptly \nnamed “The Marquette and The Joliet”. Clayton and Clinton County Naturalists \nwill teach you how to paddle them while we sing “Alouetté,” a French-Canadian \nfolk song once popular among "voyageurs" to keep cadence as they \npaddled. \n \n
\n\nPlease \nmeet at Osborne at 8:30 a.m. for a car caravan to the river. After the program \nthere will be the option of lunch at a local restaurant for those who wish to \ndine out. You must reserve a spot to crew a canoe. \nRegister by calling (563) 245-1516
