DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=BASE64:
We’re looking for passionate volunteers to join our Integrated\nMonarch Monitoring Program team at Cedar River Crossing! Whether you’re a\nseasoned naturalist or just love being outdoors, this is a fantastic\nopportunity to make a real impact. By spending just a few hours in the field,\nyou’ll help collect critical data that supports monarch conservation on a local\nand national scale. Plus, it’s a great way to connect with nature, learn more\nabout pollinators, and be part of a community working toward positive change.\nCome be a part of something meaningful and join us in safeguarding the future of monarchs!
\n
Below are the surveys we are\nplanning to complete on this date (weather and volunteer dependent). We will\ndivide duties based on your interest and experience (no experience necessary-we will teach you)!
\n1. Monarch Egg and Larva Survey Participants search milkweed plants for monarch eggs and larvae.\n
2. Adult Monarch Survey Participants\nwalk the site to count the number of adult monarchs present and record their\nbehavior.
\n
The Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP) is a\nnationwide effort to track and support monarch butterfly populations by\ngathering essential data on their habitats, breeding success, and overall\nhealth. Through community-driven science, volunteers help monitor milkweed\npresence, nectar resources, and monarch life stages, contributing valuable\ninformation that aids conservation efforts. This data not only informs\nscientists and land managers but also helps shape strategies to protect these\niconic butterflies and their vital ecosystems.
\n
This volunteer work can be physically demanding depending on\nthe weather and the surveys being conducted. All volunteers should feel\nconfident walking through uneven, muddy terrain and tall vegetation. We will\nencounter biting insects and poison ivy. This activity is best for adults or\nolder (teen) children.
\n
More information about the IMMP can be found on their\nwebsite here: https://monarchjointventure.org/mjvprograms/science/integrated-monarch-monitoring-program
\n
Registration automatically closes one day in advance. If you\nare fully registered, you can expect to receive an email "receipt"\nfrom MyCountyParks after registration. You will also receive an email from the\nleading naturalist a couple days in advance of the program. If you do not\nreceive these emails, you may not be registered; call 319-645-1011 for\nassistance in this case.
\n
JCC is committed to providing equal opportunity for\nparticipation in all programs, services and activities. We welcome and\nencourage people with disabilities to attend programs and events.\nAccommodations may be requested by contacting naturalist staff at 319-645-1011\nor jccnaturalists@gmail.com
