LOCATION:F.W. Kent Park - Valley View Trailhead
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=BASE64:
Enjoy the best of Johnson County’s natural spaces and contribute to\ncitizen science at the same time! A BioBlitz is a group effort to\nidentify what kinds of wildlife are thriving in a given area. This event\nis the second in our Summer BioBlitz Series, where we will explore the\nValley View Trail at the northeast corner of F.W. Kent Park.
\n
We will focus on using the iNaturalist app to record observations of\nplants, animals, and fungi. iNaturalist is a global database powered by\ncitizen science. Observations of wildlife can be shared and identified\nby anyone on the app, and research-grade observations can be used by\nresearchers around the world. Data can also help to inform decisions\nmade by other parties such as land stewards, educators, and city\nplanners. While using iNaturalist on a smart phone is the preferred\nmethod, participants can also make observations with any camera and\nupload them to the website at a later date. Participants will need to\ncreate a free iNaturalist account before the event begins. A new account\ncan be created by following this\nlink: https://www.inaturalist.org/signup\n
\n
To start the event, we will meet at the parking lot of the Valley\nView Trailhead. Participants will receive a brief introduction to using\niNaturalist before we head out to meander along the half-mile trail and\ndiscover what kinds of wildlife are thriving in the area!
\n

\n
Registration automatically closes one day in advance. If you\nare fully registered, you can expect to receive an email "receipt"\nfrom MyCountyParks after registration. You will also receive an email from the\nleading naturalist a couple days in advance of the program. If you do not\nreceive these emails, you may not be registered; call 319-645-1011 for\nassistance in this case.\n
\n
JCC is committed to providing equal opportunity for\nparticipation in all programs, services and activities. We welcome and\nencourage people with disabilities to attend programs and events.\nAccommodations may be requested by contacting naturalist staff at 319-645-1011\nor jccnaturalists@gmail.com
