County
Now I see the secret of the making of the best persons. It
is to grow in the open air, and to eat and sleep with the
Earth. - Walt Whitman
In the spirit of Whitman, the Washington County Conservation
Board is dedicated to providing quality parks and programs for
the public to have this opportunity to “grow in the open air.” We
have been maintaining parks and recreational areas since 1962.
Educational programming
Our award-winning
educational program, guided by our naturalist, is here to help
you better experience the outdoors. Programs include the
annual Halloween Hike, the Youth Fishing Derby, other public
programs, toddler and preschool programs to enjoy with your
child, summer day camps, and programs geared for your group
or organization.
Recreational Opportunities
Opportunities to enjoy nature
abound in county parks, from hunting and fishing to bird
watching and hiking. A wide variety of habitats – including
prairie, woodlands, and waters – with their assorted wildlife are
found among the different parks.

Donations and Volunteers
Looking at the future of
conservation within the county, the WCCB realizes it will
take more and more support from private citizens for their
conservation initiatives. Through our non-profit foundation,
individuals or organizations may donate, tax-free, cash, life
insurance, retirement accounts, memorials, in-kind contributions,
and much more. Time is also a premium, and volunteers are
always welcome.
