The Cedar Valley Paddlers Trail
Connects the Cedar River with the many lakes in the Cedar Falls
and Waterloo area through a series of portage trails. This gives
the beginner or expert paddler the feel of a Boundary Water
Canoe Area experience. Signage would guide users throughout
the length of the water trail, providing orientation and river
access information. Portage trails allow users to bypass dam
locations, and also offer individuals a chance to rest or access

Halloween in the Parks
The Black Hawk County Conservation Board provides
Halloween Weekends in all of our major campgrounds,
McFarlane Park, Hickory Hills Park and Black Hawk Park.
McFarlane Park will have a potluck, a movie, a spook ride, trick or
treating and a camper decorating contest. Hickory Hills will have
a costume contest, parade, campsite decorating and pumpkin
carving contest. Black Hawk Park will have trick or treating. Call

that the outdoor recreationist will find hard to resist.

Maple Syrup Festival-1st week in March-
Come on out to Hartman Reserve Nature Center’s Annual Maple
Syrup Festival, featuring all-you-can-eat pancakes, if you can
catch them from the famous Chris Cakes spatula! Visitors can
also visit the Hartman Reserve sugar shack and learn how we
make real maple syrup; from collecting the sap to boiling it down
into syrup.
Sweet Days-Mid to Late March
-Learn to make real maple
syrup and take a guided hike to look for signs of spring. Snack
included.
Earth Fair- End of April-
Fishing, canoeing, wild flower hikes,
and lots more. Service projects may be available for scouts.
