Position: Conservation Aide I/Seasonal Park Officer
(Temporary & Seasonal) Reports

General
Summary
Under
specific direction of Director, and Park Officer; performs manual labor needed
to maintain and improve recreation areas managed by the Conservation Board.
Will perform all duties of a seasonal conservation aide I; and in
addition to those responsibilities will also assist in campground patrol,
camper registrations, cabin and cottage area patrol, beach area patrol and
minor law enforcement issues. This position
is staffed only during summer months.
*This position is intended to be used as a
paid internship position and you would be allowed to receive college credit
while working full-time.
A.
Essential Functions
1. This position will assist Director and
Park Officer with patrol of campgrounds, cabins and cottages, camper
registrations, beach area patrol and minor law enforcement issues. Performs
unskilled and semiskilled tasks required in the maintenance of parks and park
facilities, performs physical labor tasks in a wide variety of activities.
2. Assist in park maintenance work, such as
repair of facilities, equipment, grounds, roads, trails, etc.
3. Operates tractors, trucks and mowers in
cutting grass, hauling materials, picking up garbage, paints, repairs, install
signs, trims trees and shrubs.
4. Cuts trees and clears brush from trails,
set up boat docks and plant trees, shrubs, and flowers.
5. Custodial duties such as cleaning
restrooms cabins and cottages.
6. Provides helpful and general information
to visitors.
B. Physical Demands
Walking, standing, lifting, carrying, bending,
climbing, seeing and able to use hands to manipulate tools are all required in
the maintenance operation of the Conservation Board areas.
Must
be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds routinely.
C. Cognitive Demands
Ability to think for one's self in order to
carry out the maintenance operations in a safe and efficient manner. Knowledge of a variety of equipment and tools
with the ability to detect minor and major malfunctions. Basic understanding of natural resources and
management practices. Responsible for
collecting camping fees and making change when needed.
D. Work Environment and Equipment
Most
of the work outside during summer weather conditions can include: sun, wind,
high temperatures and rain. Operate
noisy equipment such as tractors, mowers, small engines and power tools. Work in maintenance shop operating saws,
drills, welder, grinder, torch and other power and hand tools. In office briefly to coordinate work
activities and fill out time sheets.
Uses commercial mower, self-propelled walking mowers, grass trimmer,
tractor with loader, tractor, hydraulic dump wagon, pickup; all types of hand
and power tools; water barrel and transfer pump, 3 pt. rotary mower, 3 pt. post
auger, Jon boat and motor, equipment trailer, harrow; live bacteria and
disinfectants; lumber; metal (pipe, rod, tubing, etc.).

F. Entry Qualifications
Must be enrolled in or attending college pursuing a degree in
Parks/Wildlife/Criminal Justice or a
related outdoor/law enforcement field. Or have a degree in one of these or a
related field.
Must
have driver's license, is at least age 17 and have a general working knowledge
of tools and equipment.
Must
be willing to work weekends, holidays, and irregular or special event hours if
necessary.
The

Qualifications
Enrolled in or attending college pursuing a degree in Parks/Wildlife/Criminal Justice or related field.
at least 17 years of age and have a valid drivers license
