Description
Under supervision to perform a variety
of routine and skilled duties involved in general park operations and
maintenance; including park patrol and security work and provide assistance
with environmental education programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The
following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as
exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervise and
participate in park maintenance work such as construction and repair of
buildings, tables, fireplaces, tools and equipment, and the maintenance of
developed grounds, boat ramps, roads, trails, signs, boundary fences, shelters,
restrooms and water and electrical systems.
Conduct
preventative maintenance and routine repairs to vehicles, equipment,
playgrounds and the facilities.
Conduct
landscaping maintenance activities to include: trimming, pruning, and planting
trees, seeding grass and mowing.
Patrol and
enforce laws and regulations pertaining to the Conservation Board rules and
regulations; issue summons to persons abusing facilities or conservation laws
and regulations.
Clean and
maintain park areas and facilities.
Perform timber
stand improvement including removing dead or diseased trees from park areas or
trails.
Patrol areas and
collect fees from the public for use of park facilities; maintain records and
deposits money.
Make
presentations to public groups and organizations as required.
Assist with
Environmental Education programs and displays, both for school age children and
general public.
Establish and
maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees and
the general public, and maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
Perform related
duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly
supervises other employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in
accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees;
planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and
disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors’ degree
required or Associates' degree from a two-year college and one to three years’
experience in park operations.
LANGUAGE ABILITY
Ability to read, analyzes,
and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and
legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability
to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style
and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management,
public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as
discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
COGNITIVE DEMANDS
Ability to apply
common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral
instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables
in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Law enforcement certification (ILEA) preferred or must
acquire within one year of employment. Valid
Motor Vehicle Operators License issued by state of Iowa, pesticide applicators
license and Commercial driver’s license class A or B and Hunter Safety
instructor. Must be a Cedar County
resident.

this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical
parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet
and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to
high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic
chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise
level in the work environment is usually moderate.
