Description
Responsibilities:
Plans,
develops, coordinates and presents environmental education programs for
schools, youth nature camps, and the general public under the supervision and guidance of
the Naturalist.
Develops
related written, audiovisual, and display materials.
Performs
related duties as required in order to educate the public on the importance of
the environment and foster a love for nature.
Carries
out general maintenance tasks at the Conservation Center including animal care,
aquarium and exhibit care, cleaning grounds, and other work as assigned.
The above job description is
intended to represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position
assignments will vary depending on the needs of the departments.
Eligibility:
Ability to serve approximately 25
hours per week from the middle of May 2020 to the middle of August 2020.
Occasional nights and weekends are required. No service on holidays. Start and
end dates are flexible.
Have a high school diploma or GED, or
agree to achieve a diploma or GED before applying for an education award. Be at least 18 years of age by the
time of enrollment. Be a United States citizen or have a permanent resident
visa. Have a valid driver’s license. Have served no more than three terms of
service in national service programs.
Typical physical demands: Requires
full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination,
and depth perception. Requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing steps,
stooping, kneeling, crouching, and operating a motor vehicle on a regular basis
within any given work day. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to
50 lbs. There will be exposure to animals (such as rodents, insects, snakes,
turtles, fish, etc.) domestic animals, and other adverse environmental
conditions. May require operation of a motor vehicle before, during, or after
adverse weather conditions have occurred.?
Qualifications
Prefer bachelor’s degree or be working towards a degree in any of the following areas: Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Interpretation, Animal Ecology, Forestry or any other related field.
