Description
Job Summary:
Responsible for developing and executing a marketing and communications framework that promotes and increases the reach of Pottawattamie Conservation’s mission and values, its staff, and community services, and for assisting with various aspects of the operations of Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center and other departmental operations. Work should be performed under but with limited supervision of the Conservation Director and Operations Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Functions:
Assume primary responsibility of communications and promotional support for all Pottawattamie Conservation parks, facilities, amenities, and operations.
Promote the advancement and awareness of Pottawattamie Conservation’s mission and goals to the public through adventive, social, and traditional forms of media.
Actively pursue existing, new, and unique promotional methods of encouraging members of the public to visit parks, join park membership program, attend educational programs. Work closely with staff to promote existing, new, and upcoming Pottawattamie Conservation events, programs, and facilities.
Provide and execute promotional and communications support for the Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation’s mission and goals.
Initialize, develop, and leverage working relationships with strategic partners including representatives of local media, the travel/tourism industry, area outdoor recreation vendors, and conservation partners.
With support from the Environmental Education staff, assume primary responsibility for the design and publication of all social media content and the maintenance of all social media accounts.
Document in the field, promote, and communicate the purpose and need of field activities performed by Conservation staff including the Natural Areas Management program, Environmental Education program, and Park Rangers.
Responsible for maintaining a unique, interesting, and relevant social media presence for Pottawattamie Conservation.
Understand and translate website analytics in oral and written reports.
Prepare and effectively present, either in writing or verbally, monthly reports documenting activities and progress made.
Develop and distribute all necessary press releases to adequately promote Pottawattamie Conservation and Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation activities.
Develop new and creative ways to promote Pottawattamie Conservation’s mission, goals, and public services through traditional and novel forms of communication/marketing and community relationships.
Update and maintain all aspects of the Pottawattamie Conservation and Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation websites. Stay up-to-date on and utilize the latest adventive, social, and traditional media marketing trends and strategies.
Assist Environmental Education program with the design, layout, and quality control of education publications, such as brochures, blog posts, signs, and posters.
Assume primary responsibility for the development and distribution of press releases, blog posts, and monthly newsletter.
Maintain list of traditional and social media contacts.
Assist Volunteer and Facility Coordinator with physical and virtual promotion of current and upcoming procedures and policies that affect the public at the Loess Hills Lodge.
Assist with staffing visitor services desk at Hitchcock Nature Center to serve as ambassador of mission by greeting visitors, answering phones, monitoring materials (e.g. brochure rack stocked, equipment check-out, such as snowshoes, GPS units, etc.).
Assist Volunteer and Facility Coordinator and Loess Hills Lodge staff with completing daily tasks on visitor services checklist when volunteers are not present, including spot cleaning of exhibits and entry area, overseeing Curiosity Cove regularly and monitoring restrooms.
Assist with new projects and perform other tasks as assigned by the Operations Supervisor and Executive Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or related field highly preferred. Two-year degree plus work experience in related field may also qualify. Prior experience with customer service, media management, websi
