Description
Winneshiek County Conservation is seeking one half-time (900
hours) AmeriCorps 4-H Environmental Education service member.
Position Description:
The
service member will work directly with youth in Winneshiek County to help them
recognize the importance of Iowa's native resources and conservation practices,
understand the science of the natural world, experience the joy of outdoor activities,
and develop appreciation and a sense of stewardship for the environment.
The service member will focus on implementing and expanding
WCC’s youth-based environmental education and outdoor recreation programming.
The member will plan, coordinate, lead, and assist with a range of programs
that reach youth from preschool through high school, including summer camps, programs
and field trips for schools, libraries, or youth organizations, and public
programs and events.
The member will gain experience and knowledge in
environmental education and interpretation, outdoor recreation, event
coordination and promotion/marketing, working with partner organizations,
lesson development and evaluation, volunteer and participant recruitment, and
implementing service learning projects.
The service member will be provided professional development
training as needed based on her or his individual strengths and needs.
Service Term: 900
hours, to be completed between April 15 and November 15, 2020. Start/end dates
and hours/week are flexible, estimated at 40 hours/week. Term will involve occasional evening, weekend, and/or
holiday hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age at the start of service; be
able to pass a background check; be a US Citizen, national, or lawful permanent
resident of the United States; and possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Experience with or education in environmental education, environmental
sciences/studies, interpretation, education, recreation, or a related field.
First Aid/CPR certification.
Compensation:
The service member will receive a living allowance of
$7,408, to be distributed monthly over the service term. At the close of
service, the member will receive a $3,047.50 education award, dependent on
successful completion of service hours.
