Description

Johnson County Conservation Board is seeking two (2) Campground Attendants to explain park laws, rules and regulations. Provide directions and information to park visitors and campers.

Special Requirements:  Valid driver's license and insurable under county liability coverage.  Must be available for duty during open park hours on the five (5) assigned duty days per week; assigned duty days will include all weekends and holidays. Must be available mid-May through the end of September. Must pass background check.

 Knowledge of and Ability To:

  • Camping
  • Johnson County Conservation Board rules and regulations and State park laws
  • Basic mathematical computations
  • English language to include grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation

Ability to:

  • Provide customer service that is courteous and responsive
  • Represent Johnson County and perform duties in a professional, responsible and trustworthy manner
  • Communicate effectively to individuals and groups
  • Interact effectively with persons representing widely divergent backgrounds, interests, ages, and points of view
  • Work independently as well as carry out duties with limited supervision
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and members of the public
  • Make bookkeeping entries and keep accurate records
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Operate tools/equipment used in grounds maintenance including weed trimmer and riding lawnmower
  • Handle moderate levels of stress and solve problems appropriate to the position
  • Have clarity of speech and hearing which permits effective communication
  • Have sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and hand tools with moderate use and make handwritten notations
  • Have sufficient vision which permits safe operation of equipment
  • Stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, bend, twist, reach, and crawl
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 75-100pounds
  • Have sufficient personal mobility to complete work throughout campground and county facilities
  • Fulfill duty call at all times

Specific Duties:  (to be performed satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation)

 The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Explain and enforce campground rules and regulations while maintaining effective public relations
  • Greet, assist, answer questions, and provide information to park visitors.
  • Verify camper registration, collect fees, make change, and balance the books weekly.
  • Perform limited ground maintenance duties such as pulling and/or cutting weeds, mowing.
  • Perform cleaning and custodial duties of the grounds such as litter pick-up, campsite and building clean-up, campground trash collection.
  • May assist in campground educational activities and special events/activities.
  • Be observant for activities within the campground requiring immediate attention.
  • Perform all work duties in accordance with JCCB policies, procedures and safety practices.
  • Attend work regularly.


Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Previous campground hosting experience and customer service experience preferred OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
