Description

The Operations Supervisor (OS) is housed under Ida County’s Conservation department, under management of the Ida County Conservation Board (ICCB). The OS is full-time, non-exempt FLSA status, year-round position that receives hourly pay and county benefits. Under immediate supervision of the ICCB Director, per IA Code, Chapter 350, for an average of 40 hours per week for 52 weeks a year. Reports directly to the director, respecting the Chain of Command for the director to report to the ICCB. The OS performs tasks required in the operations of the conservation department. This position coordinates the daily and long-range work activities, incorporating seasonal variation in maintenance and operations of all parks, recreation, and natural areas run by the ICCB. The primary responsibilities include regular facility, vehicle, and equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair. This person will assist in the management and daily job assignments of other operations staff. Must be capable of regular attendance at Moorehead Park, Ida Grove, Iowa, to perform assigned tasks.

Estimated Hours per year: 2,080

Estimated Salary: $20.19-$22.12 per hour ($42,000-$46,000), depending on experience and education. This person is subject to a 6-month probationary period.  Subject to annual raises based on budget and performance reviews.

Employment Period: Year-round, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm in the summer; subjected to later hours in the winter. Must work occasional weekends and summer holidays.

Other Duties and Responsibilities for ICCB:

• Perform maintenance, improvement, and care of recreational areas on county park grounds; including but not limited to: camping and picnic area upkeep; trash removal; inspection, installation and upkeep of playground equipment; road and camp pad maintenance; construction and painting/staining projects; sign maintenance, mowing and trimming, pruning/removing trees; cleaning restrooms and rental facilities, removing trash/litter, maintaining trails, grounds keeping, cutting/stacking wood for park sales, and other park maintenance as needed.

• Maintenance of natural areas in county parks, including use of prescribed fire; cutting or planting trees, shrubs, and invasive species; applying herbicides; mowing or seeding prairies. 

• Provide information to campers and other park visitors, collect camping fees, sell firewood, maintain camp amenities during busy camping days.

• Maintain a safe, clean work environment in the shop, parks and vehicles; maintaining positive public relations and attitude in and outside of the parks and at ICCB offices;

• Help enforce and communicate ICCB park rules and regulations to park users; act as a liaison to the ICCB Director. 

• Works alternating weekends and split seasonal holidays with other staff.

• Operate tractors, tractor implements, mowers, trucks, trailers, and boats, when necessary to carry out maintenance and development activities.

• Perform other duties as assigned by ICCB director.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

• Preferred candidate will have work experience relating to the job description, duties, and responsibilities. Such as, experience in general and preventative mechanical maintenance, plumbing, construction, electrical, and an interest in the outdoors is a must.

• A High school diploma or GED.

• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.

• Must acquire Iowa Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (3OT and aquatics) within 6 months of hire.

• Must complete S-130/S-190 within 12 months of hire. 

• Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa driver’s license. 

• Background check prior to employment.  

• Must pass a Physical Capacity Test for official and final job offer.

• Requires good communication skills, with a professional demeanor.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions, to read and interpret maps, and to keep accurate records of work completed.

• Exhibit strong responsibility for actions, equipment, assigned tasks, and maintain good public relations.

• The ability to organize, supervise, and assign daily tasks to operations staff.

• Be able to prepare and maintain accurate maintenance files and reports as well as skillfully operate a wide variety of equipment and tools.  Work Environment and Physical Demands

• The employee must be able to regularly lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing 50 lbs. or more.
