Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are typical for
this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.
Other duties may be required and assigned.
· Develop,
plan and conduct creative and educational programs for county schools, senior
groups, youth groups, civic groups, special populations, teachers and the
public within local, state and national standards.
· Develops
multi-media marketing materials such as: informational brochures, flyers, posters,
news releases, monthly newsletters, radio programs and educational videos.
· Assist
with operation, maintenance and staffing of the nature center, rental
facilities and programs.
· Assist
with maintenance and construction of indoor and outdoor exhibits – including
coordinating the booking, transfer, set-up and tear down of travelling
displays.
· Maintains
the Conservation Board website, Facebook page, My County Parks page, YouTube
channel, and other online accounts.
· Fluent
in basic computer programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, InDesign, etc.)
· The
work week is a non-typical 40 hour week that may include nights and weekends.
· Serves
on the Wapello County Trails Committee.
· Acquires
necessary permits to keep live and preserved specimens of animals; knowledge of
the ability to provide proper care of live animals for educational purposes.
Responsible for keeping small live animal area clean and organized.
· Assists
with special projects, management and maintenance techniques within
Conservation board Areas
· Researches
sources and applies for grants and aid to assist the environmental education
program for the Conservation Board.
· Performs
other duties as needed and required.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college
or university with major course work in environmental education,
interpretation, natural resources, biology or a related field with at least one
year experience working in education or a related field.
Requires knowledge of
basic identification and natural history of native plants and animals,
ecological principles, environmental organizations and agencies, land
management among others.
Valid Iowa driver’s license.
NASP Certification, ACA
Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification, Class D Chauffer’s License or
ability to gain these within the first year of employment.
