Description
The Palo Alto County
Conservation Board has an opening for a full-time Park Ranger position. The
person in this position is under the supervision of the Executive Director and
works closely with the Operations Supervisor. Primary responsibilities include
assisting with the general maintenance of county parks, wildlife habitat
improvement, tree planting, prairie management; the upkeep and maintenance of
equipment, buildings, roads, grounds, boat ramps, trails, signs, boundary
fences, shelters, and the campground. Other duties include, but not limited to,
overseeing the campground, enforcing Conservation Board rules and regulations,
and promoting good public relations. The applicant must be able to operate a
wide variety of equipment and have basic knowledge and skills in construction,
plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. The applicant shall have the ability
to prioritize, organize and carry out work assignments. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which includes weekend hours, occasional evening assignments, and holidays.
Other Requirements: Ability to routinely
stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb and operate all hand and power
tools for an extended period of time. Have the ability to work under all types
of weather conditions and withstand rigorous physical work. Have the ability to
stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb and routinely lift, carry, push,
and or pull up to 75 -100 pounds. Handle moderate levels of stress, meet
deadlines and solve problems appropriate to the position. Ability to work
without supervision. Provide care and maintenance of all areas managed by the CCCB
including mowing, cleaning, equipment, facility maintenance and repair,
painting, trail construction and other work as required.
Must obtain a Pesticide Applicator’s License
from the State of Iowa, obtain CPR certification and an Iowa CDL within a 2 years of employment. The employee must be able to work with other
staff and seasonal employees. Applicant must possess a current valid
driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Salary: $34,000 - $40,000 based on education and experience.
Qualifications
Graduate from a 4-yr accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural resource field or an Associate's Degree from an accredited 2-yr college in environmental studies plus a minimum of 2-years’ experience in an outdoor recreatio
