Reports To: Benton County Conservation Board

SUMMARY: Director, an administrative position, oversees the operations of the conservation department including planning, preparing, and promoting all aspects of Benton County Conservation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the guidance and direction of the Benton County Conservation Board, the Director will provide administrative management and oversight for the following functions:1. Successfully performs administrative/business functions to include: a. Financial: Establish and manage annual department budget, submit payroll, purchase and provide equipment, purchase oversight, ensure reliable financial accounting across all line-items while working closely with Conservation Board, County Supervisors, and Auditor. b. Grants/Fundraising: Successfully write and manage local/state/federal grants and seek creative funding options through coordinated fundraising with local Foundations, while coordinating with appropriate staff. c. Planning: Establish an annual program of work and a long-term strategic plan.2. Successfully performs supervisory functions, including, but not limited to: providing administrative oversight and guidance to subordinates; reviews employee job descriptions, establishes annual objectives, conducts annual evaluations, and leads regular staff meetings.3. Successfully performs public outreach functions, such as attendance at fundraising events and successfully managing a public relations program including standard and social meeting outlets, associated websites, and print media. Serves as media point of contact for conservation related issues. 4. Provides conservation leadership to county, staff, volunteer groups, and is an active participant in local, state and national conservation efforts. Provides and encourages staff technical and cultural training opportunities.5. Builds sustainable relationships with key stakeholders and county officials, park users and community and conservation foundations. Regularly attends County Board of Supervisors, Conservation Board and other pertinent meetings.6. Establishes Benton County Conservation as a go-to resource for conservation land management issues in Benton County.7. Answers emergency calls, works with staff in the field, and insures staff are trained and adhere to equipment and materials safety protocols.8. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE• 4-year college degree with emphasis in natural resources, natural resource management and 3-5 years of field related experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.• Valid driver’s license• CPR and First Aid Certification (upon hire or within one year thereafter)

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret the complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to give effective conservation related presentations using multi-media visuals or virtual software. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers.

TECHNICAL SKILLS• Microsoft Windows and Office• GIS/GPS equipment• Willing to promote Benton County Conservation using web-based tools such as conservation related websites and social media.• Knowledge of or ability to obtain other natural resource best practices (ie: pesticide application, prairie management, watershed management).• Preferred candidates should have general knowledge of construction, plumbing, heating/cooling/HVAC.• Knowledge of sustainable practices and the ability to implement them on a county level.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push or pull and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. The visual requirements for this position are similar to those classified of skilled tradespeople (ie: carpenters, technicians, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The worker is subject to extreme cold and extreme heat. The worker is subject to hazards including moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places.
