  General Description

Working under the direction of the Environmental Education Coordinator and Naturalist the successful candidate will assist, develop, and present Environmental education and interpretative programs to the public. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

1) Assists with the development of environmental education and interpretive programs for youth and adult groups and the general public. 

2) Provides support for achieving goals and objectives as established but Environmental Education Staff

3) Responsible for developing educational materials such as handouts, posters, and other educational materials.

 4) Assists with all aspects of activities and events occurring with Environmental Education staff

5) Assist with maintenance of E.E building and grounds

6) Assist with feeding and daily care of all education animals

7) Performs other job-related activities as requested by Environmental Education Staff

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1)      Willingness to research and learn about the natural history of the area and ability to identify the native plants and animals of the area. 2)      General knowledge of outdoor recreation such as hiking, biking, kayaking, and orienteering.

3)      Ability to prepare basic lesson plans and educational materials

4)      Ability to operate computers, audiovisual, photographic and other equipment necessary for program delivery. 

5)      Willing and able to manage the front desk and facilities independently on Saturdays. 

Special Qualifications                

Either be enrolled in or have a degree in parks & recreation, wildlife biology, ecology, natural resource management or a related field of study. Have an interest in educating youth and adults about our natural world. Relevant experience maybe considered in place of education.

Physical Abilities

1)      Lift, carry, push and/or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.

2)      Hear and speak to exchange information in person or over the telephone

3)      See to read a variety of materials

4)      Possess dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard

5)      Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be ready and able to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including exposure to extremes in temperatures and humidity.
