Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management (IRVM) Seasonal Worker
Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads
Seasonal Position: This position is seasonal for the Summer Season of 2018. Hours will average 40 hours per week. The standard work week is Monday- Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Depending on weather conditions, work hours may vary. Some evening or early morning work may be necessary.
Description: This position will assist the Secondary Roads staff in maintaining Pottawattamie County’s Natural Resource and Roadside Program. Under general supervision this position will mow county property and will correctly mix and safely apply herbicides to the county right of ways and public areas for the control of noxious weeds in Pottawattamie County. Additional duties include but are not limited to: planting native vegetation, conducting prescribed burns, and brush control. Must have the ability to operate county vehicles and equipment, i.e. mowers, spraying equipment, chain saws, power and hand tools. Maintain accurate daily spray records, upkeep and appearance of spray equipment, county vehicles, and county facilities. Applicants must also be able to attend programs as directed by the county roadside manager regarding: herbicide usage, licensing, continuing education, safety information, and/or any other related topic. Employee must be able to perform a wide range of physical tasks such as: walking on uneven ground, standing, bending, kneeling, and balancing, climbing ladders, lifting, carrying, and pushing or pulling amounts that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Maintain and/or acquire an Iowa Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License in Category 6 (right-of-way pest control). Options to obtain additional pesticide licenses or CDL may exist.
Salary: Pay will be $9.50-$13.50 per hour depending on experience.
