Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Plans, develops and
presents environmental education, recycling and interpretive programs for
schools, youth / adult groups and the general public. Develops related audiovisual and display
materials. The position will
include approximately 85% environmental education activities and 15% recycling
education.
Performs duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 1. Responsible for
all recycling program design and implementation to all citizens, groups and
schools in Bremer
County. 2. Responsible for
senior citizen programming at 4 Bremer County Nursing Homes and 3 Assisted
Living. 3. Scheduled duties,
programs and activities will be coordinated with the EE Coordinator/Naturalist. 4. Help design and
develop printed materials such as newsletters, press releases and promotional
flyers. 5. Prepare a monthly
activity report for each monthly board meeting, describing previous month’s
program numbers and highlights; Recycling program numbers must be shared with
Board of Supervisors periodically. 6. Help coordinate
Halloween Hike activities for volunteers related to EE. 7. Helps with web
site development. 8. Keep well
informed on trends, procedures and philosophies in outdoor recreation;
knowledgeable and active in the preservation and rehabilitation of natural
resource areas; knowledgeable of national and state programs and specifically
knowledgeable of local programs affecting natural resources and human use of
these resources. 9. Consults with the
Environmental Education Coordinator and Director on purchases for prior
approval. 10. Acquires and reads relevant publications, attends
conferences and workshops to acquire familiarity with and capability to deliver
services and programs. 11. Ability to use tools to plant trees, build
birdhouses and build and set up educational displays. 12. Cares for educational salamander.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited
college or university, ideally with major course work in natural resources,
outdoor recreation or a related natural science field; experience in
development and presentation of environmental education or interpretive
programs.

Qualifications
Must have graduated from an accredited 4 year college or university with major course work in environmental ed, animal ecology, natural resources, outdoor rec, or a related natural science field. Must possess a valid IA drivers license with D3 class.
