GENERAL:

POSITION PERIOD:  Not before April 2, 2018 nor after August 17, 2018  

Preference given to individuals pursuing a career in environmental education, natural resources, outdoor recreation, education, or related field.

DEFINITION:  The naturalist intern, under the supervision of the naturalist, will assist will all aspects of the Washington County Conservation Board’s Environmental Education Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

Includes, but is not limited to, the following:  

1.      With increasing responsibility, assist with the development and implementation of lesson plans, field trips, day camps, public programs, and related educational materials.
2.      Assist with animal care, including cleaning and proper handling.
3.      Assist with Center duties, including hosting, basic maintenance, and cleaning.
4.      Develop own project, such as printed or online material, display, or bulletin board.
5.      Responsible for keeping accurate time sheets to be submitted to Executive Director bi-weekly.
6.      Adheres and abides by the personnel policy of Washington County, subject to change with it.
7.      Assistance with other duties as necessary.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Physical Requirements: The employee will be subject to occasional light lifting (up to 25 pounds), carrying, stooping, bending, walking, standing, and reaching.  May require use of hand tools.  

MATHEMATICAL ABILITIES: Proficient in basic arithmetic skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing).   

LANGUAGE ABILITY & INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION:  Ability to interact effectively with the general public, employees, and governmental officials.  Ability to operate office equipment including computer literacy.   

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY: Regular exposure to temperature extremes according to the season of year.
