NATURE OF WORK:
 
Job duties will be primarily maintenance-oriented and will include, but are not limited to park, trail, and campground maintenance and upkeep; equipment maintenance; construction or repair of facilities; trail maintenance/creation; and wildlife habitat management. Work will involve, but is not limited to the operation of tractors, chainsaws, brush mowers and power tools. Work will require dealing with coworkers and the public with tact and diplomacy. 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 
 
Mowing and performing other assigned grounds keeping tasks for County parks, trails, and campgrounds; safely operating necessary grounds keeping equipment including mowers, tractors, skid steers, loaders, brush cutters, trimmers, chain saws, dump truck, and truck/trailers.
Performing vegetation management including but not limited to mowing, pruning, cutting, implementing timber stand improvements; uses chemical pesticides to maintain and upkeep foliage.
Performing maintenance tasks for County parks, trails, and campgrounds, including but not limited to trash removal; repair of buildings and other facilities; cleaning of showers, restrooms, shelter houses, and cabins; and painting.
Assisting with construction of new buildings and facilities.
Assisting with maintenance of equipment. 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
 
Work is performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.  Outdoor work involves bending, reaching, standing, walking over rough terrain, working with pesticides, routinely lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 75 pounds, utilizing hand and power tools, maintaining and repairing equipment (i.e. tractors, farm implement, lawn mowers, chainsaws, etc.), and working around intense fires while conducting prescribed burns.  Protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, earplugs, chain saw chaps, facial respirators, helmet and Nomex suit for prescribed burning, heavy clothing, and steel-toed boots are worn. May be required to work irregular hours including occasional weekends and evenings.
 
 
WORKING HOURS:
 
Applicants will typically work up to 40 hours per week. Applicants are expected to be available from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, from May 1, 2021 through August 31, 2021. Start and end dates are flexible. An occasional weekend or evening may be required.
 
APPLICANT PREREQUISITES:
 
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a current, valid driver license. Experience with facility, park, trail, and equipment maintenance, including competency in the safe operation of various power tools and equipment is preferred. Alternatively, applicants must have equivalent training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: 
 
Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools associated with roadside vegetation management program, including, but not limited to, chainsaws, brush cutters, pole pruner, and sprayers.
Ability to safely operate tractors, disks, planters, riding lawn mowers, 4-wheel drive, ATV/UTV, and ton truck. 
Ability to routinely work without direct supervision. 
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 
Ability to use initiative and tact to establish and maintain effective rapport and working relationships with the public, co-workers, employees, and supervisors.  
Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions.
