Description

Applications will be taken until the position is filled for the position of park technician.  This is a 40 hour/week position from approximately April 1st through mid-November and 8 hours per week through the winter.  This position is limited to a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year. The starting wage is $12 to $14 per hour depending on qualifications.  Start date is flexible with a possible 8 hours per week as early as February.  40 hours per week will start around April 1st.   Benefits include uniform, workers comp insurance, and prorated sick leave and vacation.  Insurance is not provided with this position.

Permanent part-time position under the general supervision of the Nelson Park Ranger.  Primary responsibilities include the general maintenance, improvements, supervision, and management of Nelson Park and other natural resource areas as assigned.  The park technician is responsible for helping with the upkeep and maintenance of equipment, buildings, roads, grounds, wildlife habitat improvements, tree planting and care, prairie management, and pesticide application.  The park technician must be able to operate a wide variety of equipment and have basic knowledge and skills in construction, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.  Special duties include helping oversee the operation of campgrounds, cabins, and shelter rentals.  This position is also responsible for providing park security, enforcing Conservation Board rules and regulations, and promoting good public relations.  The employee must be able to work with other staff and seasonal employees.  This position requires a non-standard work week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Work experience in conservation or park management fields is preferred, but not required.  Applicant must have the ability to obtain and maintain an Iowa commercial pesticide applicators license (within 3 months of hire, ornamental and turf, roadside, aquatic), possess a satisfactory driving record, and be able to become a certified Hunter Education Instructor.  The Crawford County Conservation Board is an equal opportunity employer.  There will be a 6-month probationary period for the successful applicant.

Qualifications
Must be 18 to apply and have a valid Iowa driver's license. Must be able to pass a standard county physical, background check, and drug screening. Must have or be able to obtain pesticide applicators license within three months of hire.
