Description
Permanent full-time position under the general supervision of the
Conservation Director and Operations Manager. Primary
responsibilities include the general maintenance, improvements,
supervision,
and management of Nelson Park and other natural resource areas as
assigned. The park ranger is responsible
for the upkeep and maintenance of equipment, buildings, roads, grounds,
wildlife habitat improvements, tree planting and care, prairie
management, and
pesticide application. The park ranger
must be able to operate a wide variety of equipment and have basic
knowledge
and skills in construction, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
Special duties include overseeing the
operation the campgrounds, cabins, and shelter rentals. This position
is also responsible for
providing park security, enforcing Conservation Board rules and
regulations,
and promoting good public relations.
The
employee must be able to work with and supervise other staff and
seasonal
employees. This position requires a
non-standard work week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Residency at Nelson Park in County provided
housing is required (electric and propane paid by employee, water and
trash by County). The house is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, with full basement
and attached garage.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s
or Associate degree from an accredited college or university, with major course
work in park management, natural resources, outdoor recreation, or a related field
is preferred. Work experience in
conservation, park management, or other fields may also be considered in
addition to, or in place of, a college degree.
Applicant must have the ability to obtain and maintain an Iowa public
pesticide applicators license (within 2 months of hire, 3OT, Aquatic, Roadside), possess a satisfactory
driving record, and be able to become a certified Hunter Education Instructor. Applicant may be required to obtain a CDL after
hire. Must be able to pass background
check, standard pre-employment physical, and drug screening. The Crawford County Conservation Board is an

ILEA certification is not required, but would be kept up if the employee is already certified.
There will
be a 6-month probationary period for successful applicant.
Starting salary range of $34,000 to $38,000 per year plus
standard County benefits and insurance.
