Conservation Aide-Seasonal

This position will work under the general supervision of the County Conservation Board Director and Natural Resource Manager. 

This position is from approximately May through mid September.  Schedule can be highly variable depending on candidates circumstances and schedule. Work week will be no more than 40 hours per week.

Successful applicant will assist full-time staff in most management activities in Parks and Natural Areas.  Park management to include mowing, trimming, cleaning/maintaining shower/restrooms, shelters, cabins, facilitating camper and cabin renter issues.  Timber stand improvement to include canopy reduction through primarily chainsaw work. Prairie maintenance including burning, planting, mowing, seed harvest, and woody encroachment control.  Be involved in native plant production, maintenance of native plant production areas and landscaping with native plants.  Conducting trail maintenance, possibly assist in environmental education, and other duties as needed.

Must be cordial and communicate effectively with staff and the public.

This position will require working in various weather conditions with strenuous activities requiring an individual to lift up to 50 lbs.  Applicant will be exposed to dust, fumes and loud noises.  Will need to be able to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, balance and climb to successfully accomplish daily work objectives.

Must be able to use or have the aptitude to learn how to use hand/power tools, mowers, tractors, trucks and trailers.

Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid drivers license. May need to work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Have the ability to obtain a Commercial Herbicide Applicators license.
