One position is available for late winter/spring 2019. The position will offer opportunities in natural resource work, equipment use, and park facility and grounds maintenance.   The position will start late February/early March with the potential of full-time this summer.   Accommodations may be made for school schedules.  The position is based at McFarland Park, Ames.  

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Duties will include mowing, string trimming, chainsaw work, litter control, general carpentry, train and prairie maintenance, and planting/pruning trees and shrubs. Conservation aides will also report/repair safety hazards; offer assistance and information to the public; assist park rangers with area monitoring; maintain working relationships with other employees and the public; attend mandatory safety training and staff meetings; and perform related tasks as assigned. Work will involve the operation of tractors, mowers/trimmers, chainsaws, and power tools.Hours will average 15 hours per week, Monday - Friday through April and may include some weekend and holidays.  

Qualifications

Applicants should be working towards a degree in the natural resource field, be at least 18 years of age, and have a current, valid driver's license. Employees will undergo a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Mandatory safety training is required and will be scheduled at the beginning of employment.
