Park Ranger

Professional Park Ranger position to be filled by May 31.  May graduates are encouraged to apply.

Duties include, but not limited to the following...

Provide general maintenance of park grounds, facilities, and equipment.

Participate in general construction and natural resource management projects on JCCB lands.

Provide crime prevention and law enforcement, while maintaining a safe environment for the public.

Assist the public by providing directions and information as well as first aid/CPR as necessary.

Monitor campgrounds and shelter areas. Collect user fees as required.

Assist with environmental education programs including hunter education.

Perform facility cleaning and maintenance duties including toilet cleaning and garbage removal.

Necessary skills/abilities...

Represent the Conservation Board in a professional, responsible and trustworthy manner.

Communicate effectively, both verbally and written, to individuals and groups.

Operate office equipment including computers.

Work and solve problems with minimal supervision.

Work outdoors in all types of weather.

Stand, sit, climb, balance, squat, kneel, bend, twist, crawl, and reach.

Have sufficient vision, dexterity, and mobility to complete work as assigned.

Perform manual labor for extended periods including lifting and carrying weight over 50 lbs.

Non-Standard work week will include nights, holidays, and weekends.

May be required to obtain pesticide applicator's license and CDL.

Education / Special Requirements...

2 or 4 year degree in natural resources or related field.  Iowa law enforcement certification or ability to successfully complete training within one year of hire.  Applicant will undergo background check and psychological and physical testing as mandated by Iowa Law.  Must have valid drivers license and be insurable by county. 

Preferred candidate will be willing to live in park provided housing at Jefferson County Park.  

Salary range $38,000-$44,000 plus county benefits.  Final starting salary set upon hire based on experience and qualifications.
