PARK/NATURAL
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP: 1
POSTITION (12 weeks)
Calkins
Nature Area, Iowa Falls, IA

Description: This seasonal position will run approximately
from May to early or mid-August.
The successful candidate will gain experience in native ecosystem
management, maintenance and daily operations of the interpretive park,
equipment operation and maintenance, captive wildlife care, natural history
interpretation and environmental education.
This position will work a Monday through Friday schedule.
Duties:
Assist the interpretive and resource management staff in carrying out
the mission of HCCB
- Assist staff in natural resource management,
invasive species removal, timber stand improvement, and tallgrass prairie
management
- Operate and help maintain equipment, trucks,
trailers, ATV, chainsaws, hand tools, etc.
- Maintain hiking trails
- Work with staff in preparing environmental
education programs on a wide variety of topics to audiences of varying ages and
knowledge base
- Maintain nature center, live animal display, museum,
and a small campground
- Identify opportunities to improve current
recreational opportunities within the county
- Assist with our nature day camps
- Must be available to work some night and weekend
hours
Qualifications: Must be pursuing or completed a degree in Natural
Resource Managemt, Wildlife Ecology, Biology, Forestry, or equivalent discipline. Ability to work independently, proficient in
public speaking, and pursuing a degree in the field of conservation, ecology,
biology, or similar course of study. Strong
work ethic, passion for native ecosystems, and a strong desire to learn, as
well as a valid driver’s license, background check, and able to work in harsh
environments.
Wage:
$10.00/hour for 40 hours/week
