Description
Conservation Aides will be persons hired on a seasonal basis, usually
from approximately May through August of a single calendar year. Persons hired
for such position will receive an hourly wage and will work on a part-time
schedule as described by the director. Approximately 20 hours per week.
Termination may occur at any time upon the director’s request.
Duties:
Duties may include, but not be
limited to: operating a large riding mower, operating a tractor, operating a
weed-eater, operating various hand tools and power tools, woodworking, cleaning
(including restrooms, shelters and grounds), rubbish hauling, minor
construction, tree planting, tree pruning, grounds keeping and public
relations.
On an alternating basis with
regular staff, Conservation Aides may be required to oversee county parks on
weekends or holidays.
Job Relationship:
Aides will be responsible
initially to the director and secondly to the park ranger.
Education:
General knowledge of natural
resources, small machinery, mowers, weed eaters, use of hand tools and grounds
keeping are preferred.
General Qualifications:
Applicant must be able to work
well with the public and act in a professional manner when on duty. The
successful applicant will likely work alternating weekends and may be required
to work under poor weather conditions. Applicant must have a valid Iowa driver’s license
and be insurable by the Ida County Conservation Board’s vehicle insurance
company.
Health:
The successful applicant must
be in generally good health and must be able to life at least 50 pounds.
Allergies or other handicaps must not hinder this person’s ability to work
outdoors.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age to apply.
