Description
AmeriCorps 4-H Environmental Education Naturalist
Woodbury County, Iowa
This position will be supervised by the
Education Programs Director for Woodbury County Conservation Board based at
Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Description: This 450 Hour AmeriCorps member will serve
approximately mid-May through August 31, 2020. 40-hour work week. No benefits.
Start and end dates are flexible.
Duties:
- Plan and conduct summer day camps for youth
- Plan and conduct public education programs and
volunteer service learning activities
- Assist with nature center exhibit maintenance
and animal care
- Assist with habitat management such as prairie
shrub removal and trail work
- Participate with publicity and public
informational activities as assigned
- Assist with nature center host duties as
assigned
Essential Skills: High School diploma or GED
equivalent. Basic knowledge of natural
environment and local plants and animals; experience working with children
preferred; self-starting ability to work with minimal supervision; computer
literate; ability to communicate tactfully, courteously and effectively with
others; The applicant must possess a current, valid driver’s license; ability to get to and from job site in all
types of weather; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to work some
evenings and weekends.
Shift: The AmeriCorps 4-H Environmental Education
Program Specialist will work no more than 40 hours per workweek. (Non-routine
including some weekends, evenings and holidays). General hours: 8-4:30pm
Monday-Friday, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as programs
require.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent. The applicant must possess a current,
valid driver’s license; can get to and from the work-site; ability to use hand
and small power tools and be physically able to work in extreme environmentally
rigorous situations (heat, humidity, steep terrain). Candidate must pass physical and drug screening and background checks
prior to employment.
Stipend: Living Allowance:
$3,704.00 (taxable). Education Award:
$1,612.43 (upon completion of 450 hours). Student loan forbearance on qualified
student loans, if applicable.
