All of O’Brien County’s 6th Graders Came Together For The O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District’s 45th Annual Outdoor Classroom
On Tuesday, September 11, 2012 all of O’Brien County’s 6th Graders came together for the O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District’s 45th Annual Outdoor Classroom. The day was spent at two locations in southeast O’Brien County - the Iowa State University’s Research Farm, south of Calumet and the O’Brien County Conservation Board’s Prairie Heritage Center, near Peterson.
The day began with their arrival and a snack of morning cookies and milk that were compliments of the Archer Elevator of Archer, Ag Partners of Sutherland, Hartog Elevator of Sanborn, and the O’Brien County SWCD.
The kids were fortunate to have great presenters to share their knowledge and answer any questions on these interesting topics ---
- Pioneer Life –Kerisa Pingel, Sanford Museum, Cherokee, Iowa
- The Best of Iowa – Kris Keene, O’Brien County ISU Extension, Primghar, Iowa
- Goats – Brian Sievers, goat producer
- Swine Station – Tim Beerman & Bruce Amundson, pork producers
- ISU Research Farm – Josh Sievers, current manager of the ISU Research Farm, near Calumet, Iowa
- Soil Health – Mike Henderson, USDA/NRCS
- Spears, Pioneer Hunting – Nicholette Bracy, O’Brien County Conservation Board, Peterson, Iowa
- Prairie Heritage – Charlene Eylea, O’Brien County Conservation Board, Peterson, Iowa
- Wildlife & Its Habitat – Kathy Koskowich, Iowa DNR
- Anemometry & Wind Power – Anemometry Specialists, Alta, Iowa
A great day of sharing, learning, laughter, and fun was experienced by all of the students of O’Brien County and the presenters that helped to make the day a huge success.
