Beaver Valley Wetland Wildlife Refuge
Beaver Valley Wetland is a 63 acre wildlife refuge located 3 miles north of Highway 57 on Union Road.
Hunting is prohibited in this area. In 1997, the Tom Carter Memorial Walkway and Observation Deck was constructed at the wetland. Wildlife observation can occur without disturbing waterfowl and vegetation in the area. A special use permit is required to enter anywhere else on the marsh and can be obtained from the main office. The refuge provides opportunities to see a variety of wetland species ranging from waterfowl, to amphibians and reptiles. Parking is located at the southern tip of the refuge.
During times of migration, many waterfowl species make the wetlands a temporary stopping point on their northward or southern trips to and from their wintering grounds. Many species of ducks as well as geese can be found in the refuge.
The area provides the opportunity to see
some of Iowa's nongame bird species.
The refuge also provides a prime location to observe many of the waterfowl species that are found in Iowa.
Location
Northeast of Cedar Falls off of Union Road. Public parking is found at the intersection of Beaver Valley and Union Roads.
