Building Better Birders and Citizen Science Workshop 4 ~ Part 2

Buena Vista County Conservation is hosting a series entitled “Building Better Birders and Citizen Science Workshops.” There will be four workshops focusing on all different species of birds and will be held throughout the summer at various conservation properties. These workshops will be conducted by Kelly McKay (BioEco Research and Monitoring Center) with assistance from Mark Roberts (Clinton County Conservation), and Brian Ritter (Nahant Marsh Education Center).
The workshops are free of charge and you are welcome to come for a whole day, partial day, or a just a class that interests you. Snacks, water, and lemonade will be supplied throughout the workshop but bring your own lunch. Bring appropriate walking shoes if you plan on participating in the bird walk, along with sunscreen, bug spray, and dress for weather.
The fourth workshop will be held at Buena Vista County Conservation Park South Shelter Area and divided into two days. The first half of the workshop will be held on Friday, September 10th from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The second half of the workshop will be held on Saturday, September 11th from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. 9:45 – 10:00 ~ Break (Donuts and snacks provided by BV
Conservation)
10:00 - 12:00 ~ Introduction to the Warblers of Iowa
12:00 - 1:00 ~ Lunch (Please bring your own)
1:00 - 3:00 ~ Introduction to the Woodpeckers, Doves, and
Similar Species of Iowa
3:00 - 3:15 ~ Snack (Provided by BV Conservation)
3:15 – 4:00 ~ Monarch Tagging program by the Naturalist
4:00 – 6:00 ~
Research Presentation: The Ultimate Winter Bird Survey: Summary of the First
Ever Christmas Bird Count Marathon
6:00 ~ End of 4th workshop
Registration is required for the bird workshop, please contact the Conservation Office at 712-295-7985 by Wednesday, September 8th to RSVP. When calling to register please let us know if you plan to attend the full workshop or only certain classes. ∙ Please do not go to any activity if you have a fever, are exhibiting symptoms, have been recently diag nosed, or have been around someone recently diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last 2 weeks.
∙ Social distancing is encouraged. You are welcome to bring your own mask and wear it.
∙ Participants will be required to use hand sanitizer before and after touching any objects provided by the CCCB.
