Here Comes the Sun Challenge

Posted:3/16/2021 Jackson

Spring is just around the corner. To celebrate the impending arrival of the season and to help raise funds for the Hurstville Interpretive Center solar array project, we have a fun opportunity for you!

Guess the number of days that the sun will shine in Eastern Iowa during the months of April and May.

 To Participate:

  1. Suggested donation to participate in the challenge is $10 or more per month. Donations can be made online or drop off/mail a check to the Hurstville Center, 18670 63rd Street, Maquoketa, Iowa 52060.
  2. Email your guess for each month to friends@jacksonccb.com - entry for April due by March 31 and entry for May by April 30. Monthly winners will receive a solar phone charger, perfect to stay charged on long hikes or camping trips.

Things to consider:

  • As we progress from winter through springtime, the days not only get longer, but we also experience significantly more sunny days.
  • Partial sunshine is a classification used by meteorologists to describe days that have between 30-90% sunshine over the course of daylight hours. We will include full and partial sunshine days.
  • We will use the Dubuque weather station report for number of days of sunshine.
