Waterbugs Natures Treasures
McFarland Park, Story County
Monday, June 10, 2024
Children should have completed 1st or 2nd grade to attend this camp.
Calling all explorers! Search
for nature’s treasures as we follow maps, make mini-rafts, investigate
wildlife, and step into creeks and marshes. Discover Story County natural areas
through hands-on activities, art, stories, games, and journaling. We
may visit the following areas (locations may change depending on water levels):
McFarland
Park: Pond, prairie, forest, and
creek—we’ll experience several habitats and the bugs, birds, and other
creatures that live there.
Cooper’s
Prairie Marsh: This restored marsh adventure is a natural
"jungle" of cattails, sedges, rushes, muskrats, yellow-headed
blackbirds, and dragonflies.
McFarland
Creek: We’ll flip rocks in the
riffles and shallows of the creek and search for crawdads, water striders, and
natural clay.
