August Hitch Hike

Join us Tuesday, August 21st for the fourth hike in the 2018 Hitch Hike series. Meet up with the group at the Old Lincoln Highway Deck at the Hitchcock Nature Center Campground to begin this walk down the Hohneke Trail to Oak Avenue and the Bunker Hill Loop. Explore the northern section of the park & view a remnant of the original Old Lincoln Highway.
The public is invited to attend all the hikes in this series. They are designed to introduce visitors to Hitchcock Nature Center as well as the Loess Hills. The series begins with a moderate level hike and will get progressively more challenging as we build up to a 2.5 mile difficult hike in September. Water bottles, bug spray & sunblock are all recommended and please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.
Well behaved dogs are welcome to accompany their owners but must be leashed at all times, you must pick up and remove their waste, & you may be asked to remain toward the tail end of the group if we have a large number of participants. This is an educational program, disruptive pets may be asked to leave the group.
Pre-registration is not required for this event. Attendees must purchase a $3.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass or have a membership to the Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation to attend this program. Daily passes may be purchased with exact change or check at the front gate and may be purchased the day of the event. Annual memberships start at $20.00 and may be purchased from staff at any of our parks or at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center during regular business hours. Annual memberships may also be purchased online in advance at www.pottawattamieconservationfoundation.com.
There is no additional fee to attend this program, free will donations are encouraged and will support continued programming opportunities in Pottawattamie County.

Weather permitting, please meet at the Old Lincoln Highway Overlook Deck in the upper loop of the Hitchcock Nature Center Campground. Follow the signs to the north of the main park gate to the upper loop of the RV campground.
