Snowshoe Building Course - Sessions in December
Wickiup Hill Learning Center, Linn County
Tuesday, November 26, 2019
This winter, Linn County
Conservation will offer the opportunity for you to build a pair of traditional
snowshoes. Naturalist Chuck will lead this popular program, where these sets
are created for hiking, unique gifts, or even decorations.
These evening sessions are held at
Wickiup Hill Learning Center from 6 – 9 p.m. on December 10, 12, and 19. Attendance at all three lacing sessions is
highly recommended for best results. With
some time invested at home, kits can be completed around the New Year. Additional evenings will be needed to varnish
the shoes at our Services Shop at 3173 Highway 13, Marion (corner of Highway 13
and County Home Road) in the days following snowshoe construction and between
the Holidays. A minimum of three to four
of these sessions will be required to varnish the shoes properly.
Participants must register on-line and pay by November 26
so kits can be ordered. The $225 class fee includes the cost of a snowshoe kit,
a binding set and varnish for each participant. Registration is under Events at Linncountyparks.com. For more details and questions about options,
call Chuck at 319-892-6485. Kit building
typically requires the manual dexterity of someone high school age or older.
Class size is limited.
