This camping area is for youth groups only.  This grass walk-in only campsite is nestled in among mature oak, hickory and Osage orange trees along the banks of Camp Creek.  This site provides a remote setting for large youth groups looking for an opportunity to camp without the impact of neighbors.

 

Youth Group Definition: "All groups reserving this campsite must be composed of persons 17 years of age and under which is sponsored by and accompanied by adult representatives of a formal organization, including but not limited to Boy and Girl Scouts of America, churches, Young Men and Women’s Christian Association. Chaperoned Organized Youth Group DOES NOT include families of a formal organization. All groups reserving this site are subject to verification from park staff upon arrival." *Section 13-I of Polk County Conservation Rules and Regulations.

 

Sites may be reserved up to one-year in advance and must be made prior to setting up campsite on the date of reservation.

We have a limited refund policy; however, if you need to change your reservation you have one opportunity to reschedule. Details regarding the advance notification requirement, change and cancellation fees can be found in the Facility Contract accepted at time of booking.

Location: south edge of Thomas Mitchell Park along Camp Creek. Maps of the area can be found on our website at http://www.polkcountyiowa.gov/conservation/things-to-do/camping/.

Parking: No parking is allowed at loading gate next to the youth camp area. Please park in the gravel parking lot in the campground and take the trail to your final destination. See map for reference or call Park Ranger at 515-249-1753 for special arrangements.

Fees

Camping rate: $25/per night 

Capacity: maximum number of people allowed to camp at site is 30 people.

Reservations may be made up to ONE YEAR to date in advance.

Summer Hours: 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Winter Hours: Sunrise to sunset  

Upon entering park after hours, vehicle may be stopped by ranger requesting their campsite number and name of the party registered to the site.

April 1 through November 30

·        Reservations are required for reservable sites. Many additional sites remain first-come, first-served during this time.

·        Water and modern restroom/shower facilities are guaranteed to be open 4/15-10/15. These facilities may open earlier and stay open later depending on weather conditions.  

Closures

 November 1 through March 31

·       Gravel roads in camp areas are closed to vehicular traffic.

·       Shower house closed.
