Yellow Banks, Youth Camping Area

This camping area is for youth groups only. This is a grass, tent only camparea near the Des Moines River.  This site is ideal for the group that would like to experience river life with easy access to the river. Yellow Banks Park provides unique opportunities for hiking along the loess bluffs overlooking the Des Moines River Valley.  This site provides a remote setting for large youth groups looking for an opportunity to camp without the impact of neighbors.

 

Youth Group Definition: "All groups reserving this campsite must be composed of persons 17 years of age and under which is sponsored by and accompanied by adult representatives of a formal organization, including but not limited to Boy and Girl Scouts of America, churches, Young Men and Women’s Christian Association. Chaperoned Organized Youth Group DOES NOT include families of a formal organization. All groups reserving this site are subject to verification from park staff upon arrival." *Section 13-I of Polk County Conservation Rules and Regulations.

 

Sites may be reserved up to one-year in advance.

We have a limited refund policy; however, if you need to change your reservation you have one opportunity to reschedule. Details regarding the advance notification requirement, change and cancellation fees can be found in the Facility Contract accepted at time of booking.

Fees

Camping rate: $25/per night 

Capacity: maximum number of people allowed to camp at site is 30 people.

Reservations may be made up to ONE YEAR to date in advance.

Hours of Operation & Seasons

Summer Hours: 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Winter Hours: Sunrise to sunset  

Upon entering park after hours, vehicle may be stopped by ranger requesting their campsite number and name of the party registered to the site.

April 1 through November 30

·         Reservations are required for all sites.

·         Water and modern restroom/shower facilities are guaranteed to be open 4/15-10/15. These facilities may open earlier and stay open later depending on weather conditions.  

 

Closures

December 1 through March 31

·         Gravel roads in camp areas are closed to vehicular traffic. Shower house is closed.

 

 In the case of inclement weather (ice/severe snow), please contact the ranger at 515-250-1031 for status/gate closure updates prior to booking.
