Interpretive Park Assistant (Seasonal)

The Hardin County Conservation Board consists of 60 areas, totaling over 4,000 acres of timber, prairie, wetlands, parks, and campgrounds all surrounding the beautiful Iowa River. We are looking for an hardworking and motivated individual that is interested in gaining experience in many different aspects of interpretive park operations. 

 Description:  This seasonal position works out of the Calkins Nature Area, and will run from mid-May to early or mid-August. The successful candidate will gain experience in park maintenance, resource management, equipment operation and maintenance, captive wildlife care, and the possibility of some natural history interpretation and environmental education.  This position will work a Tuesday through Saturday work week.

On-site housing is available.

 Duties: 

• Assist the interpretive and resource management staff in carrying out the mission of the Hardin County Conservation Board
• Daily feedings and maintenance of our live animal display (over 25 species) 
• Assist staff in natural resource management, invasive species removal, timber stand improvement, and tallgrass prairie management
• Operate and maintain equipment, trucks, trailers, ATV, chainsaws, hand tools, etc.
• Identify opportunities to improve current outdoor recreational opportunities within the county
• Work with staff in preparing for environmental education programs and assist with youth nature day camps when needed
• Must be available to work some night and weekend hours
• Other duties as needed
