Seasonal Naturalist/Conservation Aide

Description

This position will work under the general supervision of the County Conservation Board Director and Naturalist This position is from approximately May through mid-September.  Schedule can be highly variable depending on candidate’s circumstances and schedule. Work week will be no more than 40 hours per week, which may include evenings and weekends.

Successful applicant will assist the naturalist with organizing and conducting outdoor recreation and environmental education programs, developing and facilitating school field trips and nature camps, designing displays for the nature center, planning and leading indoor and outdoor environmental education classes for a variety of groups, animal care, among other duties - with increasing responsibilities throughout the summer. Duties may include land and park management.

The applicant must be able to maintain a working relationship with other employees, board volunteers and the public.This position will require working in various weather conditions with strenuous activities requiring an individual to lift up to 50 lbs.  Applicant will be exposed to dust, fumes and loud noises.  Will need to be able to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, balance and climb to successfully accomplish daily work objectives.

Must be able to use or have the aptitude to learn how to use hand/power tools, mowers, tractors, trucks and trailers.

Qualifications
Applicant must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license. Those pursuing a career in environmental education or conservation land management preferred.
