Description
This is a part time,
seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week, for a maximum of 20 weeks, under
the general supervision of the Executive Director, Park Ranger, and Operation
Technician. This position is involved in the day-to-day maintenance and
operations of all areas under management of the Jackson County Conservation
Department.
Essential
Functions of the Job:

Care and maintenance of county areas. This
will include mowing, cleaning, equipment and facility repairs, painting,
and other work as required.

Management of natural resources areas
including, timber management, native prairie care and management, and
wildlife habitat improvement.

Trail construction and maintenance
including mowing, tree pruning, bridge repair, and brush control.
Maintenance and servicing of county
equipment.

Performs other duties as directed by the
Executive Director, Park Ranger, or Operation Technician.

This position requires the operation all
types of equipment including trucks, tractors, mowing equipment, chain
saw, weed eater, power tools, and all types of hand tools.

This position requires travel to all
areas managed by the Conservation Department within the County. The employee will be required to work in
all types of environmental conditions and be willing to do strenuous
physical labor.
Required
knowledge, skills, and abilities:
-
Ability to work long hours and outside
in a variety of terrain and weather conditions.

Basic knowledge of materials, methods,
and techniques used in the park management field.
Knowledge of equipment and vehicle use,
maintenance, and minor repairs.

Ability to self-start and find work
projects when not directed to do so.

Ability to understand and follow
directions properly.

Ability to perform rigorous physical
work. Employee must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing more
than 80 pounds.

Ability to provide information to the
public concerning the conservation field or related topics.

The ability to recognize and solve
problems occurring during the performance of duties.

Preference goes to students pursuing a
career in a conservation, natural resource, or other related field.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Compensation:
Hourly rate of $12.50
