Plymouth County Conservation Position Description
Seasonal Naturalist
General Description: This is a seasonal position. The summer naturalist will assist the staff naturalist with planning and conducting environmental education program activities for a wide range of audiences.
Organization: The person in this position reports directly to the Naturalist, and is responsible to them for carrying out duties in a safe and timely manner. The person in this position may also be supervised by other full time staff.
Essential Functions:
• Plans and conducts summer camp programs.
• Plans and conducts public programs during the summer.
• Assist Interpretive Naturalist in duties related to that position as assigned.
• Offers accurate and polite advice upon request by park visitors.
• Provides custodial services to all park restrooms, buildings, and facilities; and assures they are clean, operable, and adequately stocked, as assigned.
• Assist other conservation departments as needed. (park ranger, conservation technician, park technician)
• Observes for hazards or threats to safety simultaneously while working on assigned tasks, and reports observations to supervisor.

Fair Labor Standards Act
• Non – exempt ( time and one half pay for all authorized overtime )
Work Schedule
• Non- Standard Work Week. Typically Monday – Friday with some weekends, and overnights.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities at Time of Hire:
• Must have or be obtaining a degree in Natural Resources or Education.
• Must be willing to learn how to canoe and kayak on a lake and on a river.
• Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Possess the basic understanding and acceptance of chain of command.
• Possess the basic ability to operate vehicles and equipment necessary in the management of conservation areas and facilities.
• Possess the ability to tow and back an equipment trailer with a heavy duty pickup.
• Possess the ability to regularly lift 50 pounds to complete responsibilities, occasionally lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds.
• Possess the ability to become knowledgeable about Plymouth County Conservation areas and opportunities within the first week of employment
Qualifications
-Must be obtaining or have a degree in Natural Resources or Education.
-Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license
