Summer Conservation Technician

Job Title:  Summer Conservation Technician  

Supervision:  Director  

Employment status:   Forty (40) hours per week from May 7 through September 7.  Actual employment may vary to suit school schedule.  Position may be tailored to satisfy internship requirements if necessary.  

Basic responsibility:  Assist in operation, development, and maintenance of MCCB areas, facilities, and equipment.    

Knowledge, skills and abilities: 

• Ability to communicate in a courteous manner with the public. 
• Ability to work without supervision and capable of supervising seasonal employees.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, power and hand tools.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in all types of weather conditions.  

General duties and responsibilities:  

• Participate in daily maintenance tasks in county areas such as mowing, trimming, painting, etc.
• Explain regulations and recreational opportunities for area users in a clear, concise, and courteous manner.
• Provide for safety of area visitors; administer first aid if needed.
• Ensure fee collection including weekend and holiday evenings.
• Maintain neat personal appearance and wear uniform while on duty.
• Adhere to agency policy and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by director.
• Work weekends, holidays, and other irregular hours as assigned. Ø  Supervise other seasonal employees    

Qualifications and requirements: 

• Course work in conservation, recreation, park management, biology, wildlife biology, forestry or other natural science preferred.  
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to operate a manual transmission.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR desired.
