Description
DEFINITION:
A permanent, full-time position under the direct supervision of the Clayton County Conservation Board’s Executive Director. This employee is responsible for office support, customer service, public relations, phone and visitor screening, and other duties as assigned.
 
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
This employee will be assigned to the Osborne Conservation Center located at 29862 Osborne Road, Elkader, IA 52043. This position requires knowledge of computer operations (Microsoft Suite), photocopier, cash register(Square), laminator, projector, scanner, and the security system and phone systems located in the Center. This employee must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which includes opening and closing the Osborne Conservation Center before and or after regular operating hours.
 
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week/Full-time. Normal business hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Saturday & Sunday noon to 4:00pm (April-October). Monday through Friday (November-March). This position requires weekends, at least two per month. Weekends are shared on a rotational basis with the Office/Welcome Center Manager.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Provide customer service and tourism information to residents and visitors. Assist with organizing and implementing special events. Coordinate and track volunteers. Monitor and update social media, web and print materials. Record visitor, camping, education program numbers, copier numbers and water data. Provide support to all members of the Conservation Department. Stay current on Conservation issues, trainings, programs/events, partnerships and grant opportunities. Stock and monitor Iowa Room Gift Sales. Record transactions extending to donations, equipment rental, program registrations, and camping registration. Assist with bills, claims and budget process, Welcome Center Reports, and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Promote the health and general welfare of the people; to model and encourage preservation, conservation, education and recreation through responsible use and appreciation of our natural resources and cultural heritage.
 
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
? Promote Clayton County Conservation Areas and activities through press releases, radio programs, social media, and joint-coordination efforts with other county and regional entities
? File records and materials
? Assist with developing and mailing newsletters and other publications when requested
? Provide assistance to the environmental education staff during school or public programs
? Organize large mailings for events or programs
? Retrieve and distribute daily mail
? Train and assist volunteers at the Conservation Center
? Field calls for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and coordinate special events in partnership with Clayton County Conservation
? Attend trainings and certification classes; ie: Iowa Tourism/Welcome Center
? Other duties as assigned
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
? Ability to communicate with the public in a tactful and courteous manner
? Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
? Knowledge of personal computer operation, and other basic office equipment
? Ability to assist the general public in obtaining information about outdoor recreation including fishing, camping, hunting, environmental education programs and other related information
? Ability to be trained as an Iowa Travel Center Guide
 
QUALIFICATIONS
? High School graduate or GED equivalent, experience preferred
? Valid driver’s license
? Knowledge of computer operations including Microsoft
? Must pass a pre-employment physical through the county’s provider
? First Aid and CPR certified.
 
SALARY This position is considered a full-time, non-exempt position, paid a competitive salary plus standard county benefits.


Qualifications
High School graduate or GED equivalent, experience preferred
Valid driver’s license
Knowledge of computer operations including Microsoft
Must pass a pre-employment physical through the county’s provider
First Aid and CPR certified
