~ Conservation Aide, Temporary Status – 2 Positions ~
DESCRIPTION: Reports directly to the Park Ranger and or Naturalist, and is under the general supervision of the Director. Employees will participate in the maintenance of county conservation areas, maintain accurate camper registration log and collect fees, assist in management of cabin and shelter house rentals, enforcement of park rules and regulations, general park maintenance, assist Naturalist with Environmental Education programs, assist in forestry and vegetation management and assist in other duties as required. Length of position runs from May 1 to September 17 approximately.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Nights, weekends and holiday work may be required. It is preferred to have the applicant to either be enrolled in or have a degree in a natural resource field.
REQUIREMENTS: The ability to effectively apply knowledge and common sense to solve problems to achieve work objectives. Work is performed indoors and outdoors and requires a considerable amount of physical activity including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing, as well as outdoor activities such as canoeing. Additional knowledge and skills are as follows:
• Possess the basic understanding of safe tractor and mower operation.
• Possess the basic understanding of safe custodial chemical handling.
• Possess the basic understanding and acceptance of chain of command.
• Possess the basic ability to operate vehicles and equipment necessary in the management of conservation areas and facilities.
• Possess the ability to tow and back an equipment trailer with a heavy duty pickup.
• Possess the ability to provide routine service on turf equipment.
• Possess the ability to regularly lift 50 pounds to complete responsibilities, occasionally lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds.
The employee will also be required to maneuver rough terrain on foot and is subject to work in extreme hot, cold, wet, dusty, dirty, windy, rain and flood conditions. Additionally employees must successfully complete an orientation of proper equipment operation and techniques.
SALARY: $14-15 per hour. 40 hour non-standard work week. Uniform shirt is provided.
