Ranger Naturalist

Description: This position is full time permanent with Iowa County Conservation Board. It will require the applicant to actively participate in environmental education, interpretation, visitor services and resource management under supervision of the Director. This position is salaried.

Duties: Lead and assist with natural resource & trails management and patrolling ICCB properties, develop, plan, schedule, and present educational programs; design kiosk information and brochures; produce a quarterly newsletter. Approximately 2/3rds of time spent doing Ranger duties/natural resource management, 1/3rd of time doing Naturalist duties. Applicants should have the ability to work with minimal to no supervision, establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, groups, and co-workers, handle multiple tasks and various priorities, use computer programs, and work a flexible schedule and additional time as needed. Knowledge of Iowa’s flora, fauna and ecosystems required, especially of those managed by the Iowa County Conservation Board. Knowledge of natural resource management practices and safe work ethic is required.

Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Natural Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Ecology or related field and two years of relative experience working with the public; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the required knowledge and abilities. Also, this applicant must possess a valid driver’s license, have the ability to get to and from the work-site, and be physically able to work in extreme conditions(extreme temperatures, humidity, steep terrain, etc.).

Salary: $39,520 to $43,700 per year dependent on education and experience plus full county health benefits and IPERS retirement.
