Description
Work Schedule These 2 positions are part time, seasonal
positions starting around the 1st week of May and ending around October
15. The person applying for this job will work between 20 and 25 hours per
week. This person must commit to working an alternating schedule: Every other Monday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday
week 1 and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday the following week including
all holidays. Schedule may vary as needed
Duties
- Patrols, via motor vehicle and on foot, the properties managed by the Tama County Conservation Board to assure a safe, secure, and clean facility for park users. Includes enforcement of park rules and laws of the state pertaining to public use of the natural resource facilities
- Performs public relations with the general public answering questions and assisting the public in enjoying the natural resource facilities of the County Conservation Board.
- Collect and total fees from campground registrations and fill out forms and paperwork related to camp fees
- Collect trash and debris from park facilities; maintain clean restrooms, shower houses, picnic shelters and picnic areas, nature center and other premises used by the public or department personnel; cleans grills, fire rings and related equipment used by the public; perform other park maintenance duties as assigned
- Communicates and enforces rules pertaining to swimming and/or use of the beach vicinity.
- Communicates with county dispatch and peace officers using radio and other communications when necessary.
Qualifications: All applicants must be at least 18 years old. Individual must possess a valid state of Iowa driver’s license with driving record acceptable to Tama County insurer, be a self-starter with good work habits and ethic, capacity to follow oral or written job instructions with minimum direct supervision, ability to observe conditions in the field and evaluate what needs to be done, and an increased level and demonstration of honesty, integrity, dependability, and responsibility. Must be able to pass county background check.

TITLE: PARK RANGER (SEASONAL) DEPT.: CONSERVATION
DATE: 22FEB21 FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under direction of the Director works alone or with others to provide a safe and secure park experience to the general public. Job includes a mixture of security and maintenance duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Must be able to lift 50 pounds
· Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach (horizontal or
vertical)
· Must be able to walk across uneven terrain
· Must be able to stand, walk, and/or sit for periods of time up to two hours without
breaks
· Must have clear vision (either with or without corrective lenses), depth perception, and normal field of vision. Must be able to see and work in low light or darkness.
· Must have manual, finger dexterity in using various tools and equipment used in security and maintenance duties.
· Must be able to operate and communicate via high band radios (either mobile or hand-held)
· Must be able to perform math skills in collection and totaling camp fees, determining length of stay, and issuance of camping coupons.
· Must be able to read, speak (clearly and distinctly), and understand the English language.
· Must be able to withstand adverse environmental conditions such as heat and rain and undesirable elements such as water, high noise levels, odors, fumes, smoke, bugs, rodents, snakes, and chemicals.
· Works non-traditional hours requiring a great amount of flexibility in scheduling and covering the hours required for the job.

DUTIES:

· Collects, records and totals camp fees from park users. Uses forms and policies for data entry of camping registrations.
· Performs public relations with the general public answering questions and assisting the public in enjoying the natural resource facilities of the County Conservation Board.
· Picks up and hauls away trash and debris keeping grounds and facilities free of litter; maintains restrooms, showers, nature center and other premises used by the public or department personnel; cleans grills, fire rings and related equipment used by the public.
· Communicates with and assists, in a manner appropriate to the level of training and powers vested to the Park Ranger through actions of the Conservation Board, and in accord with policies of the Conservation Board, peace officers of the county in law enforcement actions taking place on properties managed by the County Conservation Board.

REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Valid State of Iowa motor vehicle operator’s license with a driving record acceptable to Tama County’s insurer.
· Self-starter, disciplined with good work habits and ethic
· Ability to work days and hours which are necessary with departmental operating schedules.
· Capacity to follow oral or written job instructions with a minimum of direct supervision.
· An increased level and demonstration of honesty, integrity, dependability, responsibility.
· Ability to observe conditions in the field, evaluate what needs to be done, and follow through by completing job task.
