This 165 acre park was developed in 1963 and is located four miles west of Dow City, Ia, Nelson Park provides picnicking, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, and camping for all ages. Four separate campgrounds are available for the camper with shelter houses available for rental or on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are also 4 primitive cabins available for rent.

Modern Hill will close for the year on September 23, 2024

The first phase of Modern Hill upgrades is due to start in September after Labor Day.  We will be adding pull through sites and several 50-amp electric pedestals. The sites will also be longer and wider in the areas where space allows.

Some camping sites will be closed right after Labor Day and all of Modern Hill will be closed for the year starting September 23rd.  For this reason, there will not be a Halloween Trick or Treating event at Nelson Park this year.  Updates on closures will be posted on our Facebook page, website, or you can call the Conservation Headquarters at 712-263-2748.
