Ice Fishing Basics

Otter Creek Lake & Park , Tama County

Saturday, February 1, 2020

Think the fishing season is over once the snow falls? Think again! Ice fishing is a popular sport throughout Iowa in the winter though it is not everyone's cup of tea. Here is a chance to come out to Otter Creek Lake and Park to learn how and get a chance to actually ice fish. This program requires anyone who is 16 or older to have a fishing license and anyone under the age of 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. This is a FREE family friendly activity! It is encouraged to bring your own equipment but is not necessary, there will be poles, bait, and an auger provided. Being a weather dependent activity, we will require registration with name and phone number by January 27th to Brendan Kelly by email at bkelly@tamacounty.org or by phone at 641-484-2231 in the event of inclement weather or unsafe ice. Hot chocolate will be provided. Things to bring with: Hat Gloves Boots Winter Jacket Snow pants/coveralls Ice fishing pole (if you have one) Something to sit on (5 gallon buckets work really well as ice fishing seats)
