Otter Creek Lake & Park

Camping

When do the campgrounds open in the spring?

At Otter Creek Lake and Park in central Tama County we open the campgrounds each spring as soon as the weather allows and the roads and campgrounds are firm which is typically from mid-April to May 1. Notice will be posted on MyCountyParks.com each year when the campgrounds open for the season.

When do the campgrounds close in the fall?

The campgrounds at Otter Creek Lake and Park stay open each fall until the weather causes closure. Typically we close our campgrounds upon the first measurable snowfall or extended cold spell near or below freezing. This is generally sometime in early November. Closing of the campgrounds will be posted on MyCountyParks.com each year.

Do you have a reduced off-season camp fee rate?

In fall, a reduced off-season camping fee is in effect from the Monday closest to October 15 until the campgrounds close. In the spring, a reduced off-season rate is in effect until the first full week of May.

Do you restrict the number of consecutive nights that I can camp at your park?

At Otter Creek Lake and Park a fourteen day stay limit is enforced. Once the camping unit or camper has stayed fourteen consecutive nights they must vacate the park overnight before being allowed to return to camp.
